Industrial Automation |
| The wheel has come to a full circle for the world of manufacturing. More than three centuries ago, in the absence of any automation, customization was the order of the day. Every item was made as per the customer’s requirement. Though this approach resulted in a product, which exactly matched the customer’s requirements, it lead to inefficient processes with longer lead times. Then came the Industrial Revolution, and with it came the concept of mass production. |
 |
This new era brought in scalable processes that lead to low cost and faster turnaround times. Accordingly, industrial automation software evolved to meet the changing needs of the industry. But as technologies advanced and the “choice space” for customers increased, they started demanding products that fitted their requirements precisely. Today, this trend is reflected in the move towards mass customization taking place across industries. Thus, manufacturers are required to produce not only customized products but also operate with the efficiencies/quality/cost parameters of the mass production process, to survive in this highly competitive market. It is this trend that has made Industrial automation the prerequisite to survive in any industry.
