Patni Web-enables financial processes of a mid-size software services firm within time and budget, using PeopleSoft FSCM 8.4

Patni's vast experience in PeopleSoft implementation helped to remove show-stoppers and accelerated time to go-live, ensuring streamlining of core financial processes, better manageability and organizational effectiveness.

The Client

A mid-sized US based Software Services company, with about 4000 employees and sizeable operations in India, besides its many locations worldwide.

The Challenge

The client wanted to streamline its financial business processes across geographies and have an integrated organization-wide uniformity of processes, procedures, consolidation and reporting. The end objective also included Web-based connectivity for employees enabling anywhere, anytime use of the financial system from across the globe.

The client thus initiated a world-wide implementation of the PeopleSoft Financial Supply Chain Management (FSCM) 8.4. The implementation was soon plagued by a number of show-stoppers:
Lack of clarity on the expectations from the PeopleSoft implementation
Inadequate preparation, hurried business analysis and requirement gathering, inadequate training, low end-user involvement, lack of fulltime resource availability,
Inadequate documentation and absence of critical customization documents
Lack of expertise in ERP implementation.


The client's senior management in disillusionment turned to Patni which has had a huge success in implementing Financial Supply Chain Management (FSCM) 8.4 for its own internal business processes across the globe within time and budget.


 

The Solution

Patni made a quick assessment using standard templates on the health of the implementation and quickly diagnosed that the entire exercise of the implementation was to be redone and PeopleSoft FSCM 8.4 to be re-implemented.

Adopting the methodology: streamline, integrate, architect, configure, and customize, Patni's key responsibilities on the project involved:
Inventory Management - Enables the client Customer Support team to maintain inventory of devices. It has features of tracking the complete history of devices, which undergoes various phases of acceptance/inspection/rejection.
Streamlining processes to bring the database and server administration issues under control.
Streamlining of the instances through fresh installation on server class machines, thus eliminating the chaos due to the existence of various development instances running on the desktop machines.
Integration of the HRMS 8.8 and FSCM 8.4 systems with the help of an Integration Broker in order to publish the employee data from HRMS to Finance.
Devising the system architecture with multiple web servers and process schedulers, while using the concept of n-tier connectivity. This helped the PeopleSoft system become Web-enabled.
Configuration of the following modules:
- Chatfield
- GL, AP, AR
- Billing and expenses
- Interunit billing and VAT functionality.
Customization and development of workarounds for:
- Workflow for expense routing
- Prior configurations arising out of the Projects and Contracts module.

Dell Server Class Machines: P4 with Windows 2000 Operating System

Database:

MS/SQL sever 2000.
 

The Benefits


Patni's vast experience in PeopleSoft implementation, standard quality and SDLC processes, helped in reducing the postimplementation show stoppers and time to go-live.

Standard SDLC and documentation processes changed the scenario from being 'person dependent' to being 'process dependent'. This made the entire knowledge impersonal, thereby eliminating dependence on transient personnel.
