The Challenge
In an extremely competitive market, the client was facing a huge challenge in
adequately testing its huge portfolio of software products in different
segments such as Application Servers, Storage Area Networks, and
Middleware. These products were available on different operating systems
such as Windows, Unix and Linux.
With different products requiring different test environments, the client was
facing difficulties in meeting the short timeframes demanded by a
competitive environment. Further, a significant amount of time of the client's
skilled staff was being consumed by testing activities. This ultimately
affected delivery timelines
To effectively meet the needs of a dynamic marketplace, the client was
looking for a QA partner who could handle end-to-end QA activities for a range
of products.
The Solution
Patni, selected as the client's QA partner, set up a Global Test Center for conducting
external validation of different products. Patni formed a joint Project Governance Group
consisting of key project stakeholders drawn from the client's team and Patni. Patni also
setup processes for code review, configuration and defect management activities.
Subsequently, Patni defined the key metrics that could be used for measuring and
monitoring the effectiveness of the numerous tests that were conducted for different
applications. A Test environment was set up that could be configured as per the
requirements of the products under test. To enhance collaboration between the client and
Patni, bi-lingual analysts and onsite coordinators trained in Japanese and English, were
deployed at customer locations. As a majority of the testing was conducted at an offshore
location, the client gained significantly in terms of cost savings. Patni also educated new
team members by sharing and transferring product / application knowledge in the form of
regular training and knowledge sharing sessions.
Impressed with Patni's process maturity and delivery excellence, the client decided to
extend the engagement which started from one division to seven divisions. The success of
the client's relationship with Patni can be seen from the fact that the engagement is now in
its tenth year.
