| Abstract |
Business dynamics are fast changing with the convergence of various technologies. Developments in embedded
technology make it possible to have smarter, connected and feature-rich products. In the past, embedded
technologies were used to program stand-alone devices, but with the growth of Internet and Networking
technologies, the potential application of these technologies has multiplied.
Embedded Technologies have become an integral part of our daily life. These technologies are increasingly used
in consumer electronics like digital televisions, cell-phones, lifts/elevators, home lighting systems, washing
machines and many other products. Today, medicines embedded with microprocessors that measure body's pH,
temperature and other parameters to calculate the dosage are being developed.
With the constant increase in consumers' demand for innovative products, it has become difficult for
manufacturers to meet their requirements. Companies are determined not only by differentiation in their
products but also by time-to-market in a new geography or product space. The complexity and special
requirements of Embedded Systems (low power, small footprint, low failure tolerance etc.) have made it really
difficult for companies to develop innovative products at a rapid pace. It is this requirement of markets that has
given rise to outsourcing in embedded space.
