Setting the Business Integration Services backbone for global launch of emerging 3G carrier

Patni has developed and is currently enhancing a business integration platform that is a mission-critical component of the client's operational infrastructure as well as a genuine business asset and competitive differentiator, thereby ensuring the real-time delivery and billing of the full range of 3G services for an ever-increasing customer base.

The Client

This first and largest wireless 3G operator brings media partners and wireless technology together for the delivery of wireless mobile data, voice, and video to a global, wireless subscriber base. The company is a global provider of 3G content rich services, currently operating its service networks in 9 countries across Europe and Asia.

The Challenge

Delivering on the full promise of the 3G wireless services is an endeavor whose success relies on technical innovation, creative business models and service delivery and operational excellence.

The complexity of providing 3G services on a network infrastructure based on new and emerging technologies makes this operator's ability to orchestrate its core business processes in a seamless end-user experience, across a large set of business support applications, essential to its success. The client requested Patni to:
Build from ground-up the IT infrastructure including setting the entire network to support its comprehensive wireless 3G services offerings
Provide a rich and diversified set of content products (music, web pages, video), in highly personalized and country specific format
Deploy, implement and integrate a large number of OSS/BSS applications in support of a coherent set of fully automated, zero-touch Customer Order Management, Service Registration and Activation and Billing business processes
Build a robust and flexible charging model integration components with no revenue leakage.

The key responsibilities included:
Build a Tibco-based business integration platform for the client's OSS/BSS applications
Full ownership for all enterprise application development, including architecture and strategy definition, program management, development, testing and production deployment, and post-production support
Delivery of the business integration services in a shared-risk, costoptimized, and hybrid onsite-offshore engagement model.
 

The Solution

The client partnered with Patni for a wide range of business integration services for its mission critical 3G business support systems platform, starting from the initial stages of its operations in late 2001, with Patni currently being the sole systems integrator for all the enterprise application integration developments.

Patni has deployed a large cross-functional team in a hybrid onsite and offshore, shared-risk delivery model, providing all the technical and functional expertise required to essentially program manage, design, build, test and rollout in production a very complex Tibco-based business integration solution.

Patni utilized Tibco's business integration platform to build a sophisticated world-class solution for managing the client's end-to-end mission-critical business processes, across a large number and variety of wireless OSS/BSS enterprise applications.

Integrated critical enterprise applications such as CRM (Chordiant and PeopleSoft), Billing (Intec's Single.eView), Service Activation (Tertio), Bespoke Voucher Management System, Mobile Number Management, Messaging Applications and Financial (Oracle Financials).
Integrated various external content providers, as well as Credit Card and Payment partner applications
Developed business process management components for a substantial number of Order Management, Billing, CRM, Service Activation and content management business processes.

 
Solution highlights:
Integrated wireless products (content and mobile services) management application integration with the billing system
Real-time messaging billing, enabled by the Messaging Applications (SMS, MMS, email)
Developed a Virtual Rating System on the TIBCO platform, ensuring accurate real-time pre-paid billing and eliminating potential revenue leakages
Integrated voucher management system with the billing and payment applications
Enabled multi-channel Self-Care Applications over the Web, Handset and IVR and integrated numerous BSS Systems such as Billing, CRM, Payments, Credit Check, etc.
Integrated to Location Enabled Applications (LEA) and Fraud and Security Applications
Developed localization framework in support of providing country and language customized-specific mobile services and content.
