The Carphone Warehouse Group - A
win-win relationship with Patni |
|
|
Patni's proven offshoring model yields benefits in terms of quality, access to scarce skillsets,
flexibility, reduced cycle time and a strong management relationship with minimal
associated risk.
The Client
The Carphone Warehouse group
of companies (CPW) comprises
the trade names and brands
The Carphone Warehouse,
Carphone Warehouse Services,
Fresh, TalkTalk and The
PhoneHouse. CPW today is the
UK's largest independent
retailer of mobile
communications and one of the
fastest growing retail
operations in Europe. They are
now poised to become a fullfledged
Telco in the UK.
The Challenge
CPW intended to extend the successful approach that has made it the
number one company in the UK, and grow the company into the leading
communications provider in Europe.
At the start of 2003, with a host of potential applications development
projects in the pipeline, the company started to examine its systems
development strategy in a new light. It was clear that rapid growth and an
ever-increasing and diverse customer base required a matching array of
sophisticated support services. The challenge for ISENet Solutions (now
CPW Group IS - GIS), the Carphone Warehouse's dedicated information
systems and e-business subsidiary, was to meet these requirements with a
flexible model that could enable fast, reliable development without
creating unwieldy and expensive projects. Outsourcing development to an
offshore operation made sense.
CPW was in search of a mature IT services provider with deep industry
experience; and robust methodologies, tools and frameworks.
Why Patni
CPW selected Patni as its strategic partner; Patni was evaluated against
leading offshore service providers, on various parameters. Patni's past
experience in the communications area and a strong reference from one of
its satisfied clients made it a vendor of choice.
Key drivers of the relationship
CPW's blistering growth rate puts a lot of pressure on meeting the
requirements fast and getting them right the first time. Applications are
rolled out to 100s of stores simultaneously to meet time-to-market
deadlines. Patni has to make sure that timelines are honoured, and there is
not much room for failure. The pressure to consistently perform well is very
high.

Client Testimonial
“We very much see the Patni team as
an extension of the Carphone
Warehouse's IT department. It isn't a
'them and us' relationship. One year
on, we have a very good management
relationship between our teams. The
quality of the work is consistently
high, and it gives us the ability to take
on more projects for the business.“
