The Client
This leading virtual network
operator provides quick,
reliable, and secure
connections to corporate
networks, e-mail, and the
Internet in approximately 150
countries. As a virtual network
operator (VNO), they offer
enterprise employees a range
of Internet protocol-based
connectivity technologies,
including wired and wireless
broadband service at airports,
hotels and conference centers
worldwide.
The Challenge
Critical to keeping its security and client access product leadership role,
this client needed support to meet an extremely aggressive product
launch deadline for its next-generation access client and its associated
server systems, including development of prototypes, key components, a
thorough code review and engineering tests to validate product
functionality. These systems needed to be thoroughly tested by a
seasoned, expert quality assurance (QA) team to ensure a high quality
product rollout process.
Additionally, cost optimization of on-going development needs was a
corporate imperative. For this, a more comprehensive, long-term
services partnership was required with innovative and fast-track ramp-up
of dedicated resources, which would cost-effectively support multiple,
complex telecommunications systems and applications.
The Solution
After examining various options for outsourcing its Development and QA
processes for its next-generation access client and servers, this service
provider chose Patni's expert team based on a reputation for fast, efficient
project design and implementation services. Offshore Patni team members
complemented Onsite Patni and client personnel. Together the team
developed and tested a robust release that was delivered to customers on time
and with excellent quality.
Given the short development time-frame, Patni split the work into code
review and engineering test services teams, consisting of an architect and a
senior consultant along with a larger offshore development team that worked
along with the in-house development team. While the architect worked with
the development team on the code review, the senior consultant worked on
multiple frameworks that could be used to identify bugs in the code, as
well as to monitor for performance and any functionality issues. A high
powered QA team employing Patni's best-practices based CymphonyT QA
Methodology defined and setup various engineering and test processes,
created complex test beds, build robust test suites and executed on
multiple test cycles.
