Simulation enables leading financial institution accurately gauge capabilities of
Business Objects XI R2 |
By establishing a simulated environment, Patni helped a leading financial institution
explore and determine the benefits that could be gained through the implementation of
Business Objects XI R2.
The Client
The client is one of the largest
financial institutions in the
world.
The Challenge
Seeking to improve the performance and scalability and ease of use of its
existing business intelligence solution, the client wanted to explore the
feasibility and effectiveness of implementing the latest version of
Business Objects, BO XI R2. As the client had already made investments in
BO 6.5.1, it wanted to evaluate the extent of customization or
modification required for installing the latest version.
Understanding that ease of use for business users would play a vital role in
the success of the implementation the client wanted a mechanism where
key users could explore the features of BO XI R2 before the actual
implementation. This was not only critical for managing and mitigating
business risks, but also essential for understanding and realizing the true
potential of BO XI R2.
The Solution
For achieving the client's desired objectives, Patni proposed a two-phase approach.
In the first phase, Patni established a Business Objects XI R2 environment at an
offshore location. This was a simulated environment wherein the client's users could
use and experiment with this environment before actual implementation at an onsite
location. Patni also provided detailed proof of concepts with respect to each
component of the BO XI R2 environment. Features of the new environment were
demonstrated to users by taking into consideration the existing business intelligence
landscape. This included launching the existing Business Objects components used by
the client such as reports, documents, security models, look and feel customizations
etc.
Once the client was comfortable and convinced about the effectiveness of BO XI R2,
Patni established a development environment at the client's onsite location. In this
phase, Patni was responsible for providing an end-to-end solution that included
architecture design, infrastructure sizing, installation and bug fixing. To ensure high
performance, the design architecture was created by paying close attention to
factors such as load balancing, fault tolerance, high availability and disaster recovery.
Patni also introduced the client to various migration and lifecycle management
techniques using automated components offered by the Business Objects XI R2 suite
of products. Subsequently, user manuals were created to help users better
understand the new system.
