Business Objects XI R2 upgrade provides
improved operational insights
|
By leveraging Patni's expertise, a leading US based organization seamlessly migrated to an
enterprise class BI platform.
The Client
The client is one of the leading
makers of wood-clad windows
and patio doors in the US.
The Challenge
For gaining insights into the large amount of data generated across the
organization, the client was using business intelligence solutions from
Business Objects. This application was used by more than a thousand
users, with more than two thousand scheduled reports or documents
being generated on a daily basis. As the scale of operations and usage
started increasing significantly, the client realized the importance of an
enterprise class integrated BI platform that would enable it to easily and
flexibly scale the system according to dynamic business requirements.
With this objective, the client decided to upgrade its existing version of
Business Objects, BO 5.1.8 to the latest version, BO XI R2. The objective of
the upgrade was to provide an easily scalable, always on, integrated web
based reporting and analysis system that would provide greater
intelligence about enterprise wide usage.
The Solution
Patni understood the client's business objectives and assisted the latter to create a
detailed roadmap for achieving the stated goals. A detailed assessment of the existing
BI landscape was conducted, and documentation of the existing business processes
followed with respect to the existing landscape was done by Patni. An AS-IS BI
architecture was created, gaps were analyzed, and TO-BE BI architecture was
recommended to the client.
Subsequently, Patni installed and configured the Business Objects XI R2 Enterprise
Premium application in the development, testing and production environments. This
was followed by designing and implementing SSO enabled customized role based
security settings in these environments. Patni was also responsible for installing and
configuring migration tools, audit & performance management databases, auditor &
performance management tools. Users were grouped depending on function, role and
responsibilities.
Additionally, Patni was responsible for the following activities:
 |
Configuring clustered fault tolerant environment that effectively
utilized network load balancing switches |
 |
Adequately tuning the BO XI R2 servers for ensuring acceptable
data retrieval speeds |
 |
Performing concurrent user stress testing to ensure that the
servers did not under-perform or break under load and that the
response timing was acceptable |
 |
Defining and documenting application change control
methodology for maintaining the Business Objects application
environment. |
