Patni helps a Large Consumer Products
Company reduce complexity of financial
planning systems |
Patni's implementation of a global financial data consolidation system reduces
overall implementation schedule and provides significant productivity gains
The Client
A Fortune 500 company engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of a wide range of grooming products.
The Challenge
The client aimed to consolidate its global financial data reporting system for
Enterprise (MIS Reporting) with SEC Reporting Data and US-GAAP. The proposed
system was expected to capture the financial data from different geographies
(89 countries) and disparate financial data application systems (about 25
different systems - ERP, legacy and home grown system application packages).
The information had to be consolidated through a Business Warehouse system
before being processed in SAP R/3.
The client's key objectives were to::
 |
Establish a uniform global financial practices and reporting mechanism |
 |
Reduce complexity of financial planning and reporting requirements |
 |
Achieve at least 7% productivity gains from the project |
 |
Achieve cost reduction. |
The Solution
Patni conducted an extensive study of the business requirements and suggested
an on-site/offshore model for the project in order to meet the aggressive
implementation time frames.
Patni was responsible for:
 |
Designing, developing and implementing interfaces that would pull data
from each of the systems, populate the data with missing information. This
consolidated information from each of the systems would contain data
uniformly across nine dimensions (currency, region, etc) and would then be
placed into a business warehouse. |
 |
Replacing the Hyperion reporting system with ArcPlan for financial data
reporting. The project also aimed at developing and implementing an
effective and user-friendly reporting tool for consolidation of enterprise
data through a Business Warehouse system. |
 |
Global data consolidation managed through ECCS (country, company,
enterprise-wide). |
 |
Governing uniform Global Financial Data - Master Data, Transaction Data. |
The Benefits
 |
Patni's in-depth understanding of the client's business processes
enabled it to adhere to stringent deadlines and complete the
project well ahead of schedule. |
 |
The client achieved a productivity gain - well above the expected
norm of 7%. |
 |
Patni suggested changes to the design of the ECCS and SPL systems,
which enabled the client to save on the overall implementation
schedule of the project. |
 |
The applications developed by Patni adhered to all the quality
standards prescribed by the client. This significantly reduced the
time and effort taken for testing. |
