Case Study
Patni helps a Large Consumer
Products Company improve supply
chain efficacy
Increased automation of supply chain processes helps client reduce delivery
slippages and effectively meet customer demands
The Client
A Fortune 500 company engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of a wide range of grooming
products.
The Challenge
The client faced increasing pressure from major customers to provide an EDI
Dispatch Advice and EAN128 shipping unit labeling for all deliveries. The
client expected to improve the efficacy of their supply chain by introducing
electronic pre-notification of incoming shipments from shippers combined
with markings on the shipment and streamline the shipment receiving
process.
There was a strategic need to implement this system at the earliest as
majority of the clients' competitors were already providing this service either
directly or via third party logistics providers.
The major challenge was to harmonize the DP processes and ensure
availability of homogenous data across organization under one platform.
The Solution
Patni analyzed the business requirements and designed the changes required in
the warehouse interface system (responsible for posting picking / packing in
the delivery).
Patni was responsible for:
Development and implementation of the system in both phases (first phase
localized to Spain and second phase focused on four warehouses in Europe)
Studying the existing Warehouse Monitoring Application and discussing with
the business users to identify the needs of the new system and processes.
Lack of proper documentation on existing WM interfaces made
customization of the new setup, designing the complex packing hierarchies
and mapping the same in packing module in SAP more challenging
designing the new requirements like integration of packing into the
Delivery Document, generation of Labels at warehouse, automation of
postage packing etc., and mapping the same on the proposed interface
application.
Interaction with the Third Party Logistics warehouse to ensure that the
client received the packing information on the idoc and EAN128 Label
printing on the pallet level
Interaction with customers to understand their specifications and
requirements for the dispatch advise file
The Benefits
Reduce delivery schedule slippages and avoid resulting fines
Improvement in business processes further improved the fill rate
Automation of major processes led to a reduction in manual work
and improved logistics management
