Leveraging its Solution Manager expertise Patni builds an accelerated Rollout framework to help a Fortune 200 specialty chemicals company reduce its SAP Rollout cost and realize quick and better ROI.

The Client

A Fortune 200 specialty chemicals company with employee strength of over 17,000 with more than 100 manufacturing, technical research and customer service sites in 30+ countries and market presence in more than 100 countries.

The Challenge

The client desired reduction in the cost of multiple, complex SAP rollouts across the globe. The client targeted three pain areas for this purpose. The pain areas with specific objectives to be achieved within them are mentioned below:

Project Management

	Make the rollout more process dependent rather than person dependent
	Build a factory-driven rollout approach for repeatability
	Create reusable project templates for all global locations
	Analyze the scope of global projects systematically
	Enable end-user training to bring down the TCO

	Visibility of the solution and business processes

The Solution

Study of all business processes for creation of the Business Process Master List (BPML) in Solution Manager formed the first phase of this project. Patni could foresee BPML serving as the backbone of all future rollouts. Patni consultants leveraged their expertise in Solution Manager to create the BPML. For this, the total requirement comprised of local legal and statutory requirements along with the critical business processes (even those that are not part of the global design).

All processes were analyzed for repeatability and reusability. Further, they were converted into templates for easy adoption in future projects. The phases, activities, and deliverables were transformed to a playbook for repeatability along with suitable templates.

Using the skills and in-depth knowledge of Solution Manager, Patni consultants were able to:

	Map business processes of each SAP instance in the Solution Manager as per the standard SAP structure to the transaction level into a region specific template using the principals of Reverse Business Engineering (RBE).
	Set up regional template for each instance comprising custom transactions, documentation, and localization processes. Use this to create the global template.
	Include all custom transactions along with any custom-built configuration transactions/objects (in the configuration tab) in the business process structure.
	Complete the business process modeling in Solution Manager with in-built business rules wherever possible.
	Create customer-specific roadmap for project methodology.
	Configure Solution Manager to handle maintenance, implementation, or upgrade requests depending upon the requirement. This in turn would aid in production support and enhancement activities to keep the global template up-to-date.
	Leverage various features of Solution Manager for change request and testing process.
	Configure Solution Manager to track changes in the process templates, thereby helping the client plan for the activities to be undertaken to speed up the upgrade process.
	Formulate Solution Manager as a central knowledge repository for the vast knowledge base available.
