End-to-End KRONOS Timekeeper implementation |
Patni’s expertise in high end package implementations helps a leading US based Steel manufacturer to automate its Time and Attendance system and lay a foundation for an integrated HCM solution.
The ClientA market leader in the niche segment of Specialty Steel manufacture, the client is a leading producer of high speed, tool and die steels and vacuum melted high strength specialty steels and alloys.
The Challenge
The client had been divested from its parent company in late 2006 and was in the process of developing its own independent IT infrastructure.
In the interim, it continued to use its former parent Time and Attendance system but the deadline for this was drawing close and it needed to implement its own system by Sep-2007 to avoid paying penalty fees. Hence the primary need was to develop its own independent Time and Attendance systems.
Apart from this, the old Time and Attendance process had the following pain areas which needed to be addressed:-
| |
1. |
Inconsistent business process: Of the total nine customer sites, four were using paper timesheets, four were on KRONOS WFC Timekeeper system and one was using a local PC based system. |
|
|
|
| |
2. |
Error prone: Due to paper timesheets at many locations, payroll components such as Overtime, Shift-differential, Holiday premium, Sunday premium etc. had to be calculated manually and was prone to errors. |
|
|
|
| |
3. |
Complicated payroll process: The old system had been configured with weekly pay period frequency conflicting the actual pay periods which were monthly/semi-monthly. Payroll administrators had to manipulate the weekly extracts to derive the payroll totals as per the actual pay periods. The payroll process had to be triggered manually as there was no scheduling automation in place. This made the payroll process extremely tedious, person-intensive and susceptible to errors.
|
The SolutionSensitive to the client’s concern about the project timeline, Patni took upon the task of implementing a new automated Time and Attendance system at all nine sites within 4 months. Following a preliminary business conception phase that was carried out in early 2007, KRONOS Workforce Central Timekeeper had been identified as the basis for implementing the new system. Patni consultants were involved in this project right from the Requirement gathering phase to Production rollout. Patni designed and configured the new system to meet the primary needs of the customer i.e. uniform and simplified business process, error reduction, reduced payroll processing time. Highlights of the Patni solution are as follows:-
