Implementation of Mercury IT Governance suite helps
financial institution align business with IT |
Leveraging the Mercury IT Governance suite, Patni helped a leading financial institution
significantly improve visibility and control over its IT operations.
The Client
The client serves as an internal
bank for a Fortune 50 company
and holds a leadership position
in the commercial paper
market.
The Challenge
Keen on using technology as a competitive edge, the client had made a host of
investments in implementing best of breed IT applications for addressing
specific functions. Over time, this portfolio of IT applications became huge
and unwieldy to support and maintain.
Lacking a governance mechanism to monitor the numerous IT projects and
applications, the client found it extremely challenging to ensure alignment
with the business strategy, and handle resource constraints. Other challenges
were the client's inability to reduce escalating maintenance costs, and
improve the response time for resolution of end user issues and concerns.
To address these issues, the client wanted to build a comprehensive
governance mechanism that would help it streamline its IT portfolio, and
achieve compliance with industry regulations such as the Sarbanes Oxley act.
The Solution
Patni implemented Mercury's IT Governance suite and offered value added services to
help the client effectively govern the IT Portfolio. This included a comprehensive project
portfolio management solution to manage IT initiatives, projects, application assets,
financials and human resources.
Key activities performed by Patni included:
 |
Infrastructure Sizing: As the existing IT infrastructure could not support the
increased demand for new IT initiatives, Patni recommended infrastructure sizing
to the client. Simultaneously, Patni advised deployment of a new management
platform to capture real-time IT status. An in-depth analysis was also done to ensure
that this system was interoperable with existing systems |
 |
Implementation of Mercury Resource Management module: Availability,
tracking, scheduling and effectively managing the resources based on skills and
requirement was achieved using Mercury Resource Management Module |
 |
SOX Compliance: As part of the SOX compliance process, workflows were designed
to be in compliance with program development, configuration management and
change control |
 |
Performance Management: Performance, load and stress testing was conducted
from global locations including United States, Mexico, India and Dublin. A de-facto
standard of a timeline less than 6 seconds was maintained for all transaction pages |
 |
Data Migration: Complete data migration from the legacy system to the new system
including the transaction and approval details was carried out to fulfill SOX
requirements. |
