IT governance solution helps leading banking
institution improve visibility across different projects |
By partnering with Patni for implementing a comprehensive governance solution from CA
Clarity, a leading banking institution gained the capability to prioritize strategic projects
and improve utilization of resources
The Client
The client is one of Asia's
leading banking institutions.
The Challenge
With no governance mechanism in place to monitor numerous IT projects, the
client was facing a huge challenge in monitoring the progress of each project.
As more than 600 IT projects were being executed in a year, the client found it
extremely difficult to ensure alignment with business strategy, and handle
resource constraints.
Further, each project had its own reporting structure which prevented a
single view of all the different IT projects running across the organization.
Project information was compiled manually using Excel sheets, and
consolidated at the end of every month. Manual compilation of data was not
only time consuming, but also prone to errors.
To address these issues, the client partnered with Patni to implement an
effective IT governance solution that would help the former effectively
monitor different IT projects across the organization.
The Solution
Patni partnered with the client to understand the business requirements and mapped it
to the existing IT infrastructure and application portfolio. Based on the understanding of
the business requirements, Patni suggested a phased implementation of the IT
governance solution. The IT governance solution chosen was CA Clarity. The solution was
chosen for its ability to provide an integrated project and portfolio management
solution.
To ease adoption and speed up the implementation process, Patni conducted a workshop
on the IT governance solution. This workshop gave a functional and technical overview of
the product, which in turn helped the users define their key requirements effectively.
Subsequently, Patni helped the client in customizing reports and ensuring data integrity
for use by the IT governance solution. Using the CA Clarity XML Open Gateway
architecture, a comprehensive set of open XML and Java-based APIs, the client was able
to synchronize information between different applications. For example, information
logged in timesheets could be sent to financial applications for calculating project costs
instantly. This integrated view allowed complete visibility into every project cost, and
facilitated allocation of resources across different projects.
