The client is a leading Global Container Transportation Company
The Challenge
The customer was facing critical performance issues in HP PPM application. The primary objective was to evaluate options to eliminate the process bottlenecks and improve the response time. This customer application was centrally located but had global usage leading to inconsistent application availability across geographic locations.
The Solution
Patni proposed a solution that included the following areas:
PPM Environment
Patni team analyzed the existing architecture, application workflows, existing objects and configurations.
The following activities were carried out to identify opportunities for tuning:
Review of HP PPM transactions that would be most frequently performed by users
Monitoring of load on Application, LDAP, Web and Database server
Review of existing Portlets & Opportunities to customize HP PPM dashboards for better usability from end-user perspective
Review of strategy for data purging / attachments / logs
Tuning of HP PPM & application and database parameters.
Network
This comprised the monitoring of Network activities for HP PPM transactions. Observations indicated that the performance of the transaction dipped whenever a packet shaper was detected in the network. Patni recommendation was to reconfigure the data packets.
General Standards & Procedures
In the existing environment, there was minimal effort towards standardization techniques. This was applicable to the configuration of core HP PPM entities like workflows & request types as well as custom DB objects. Patni provided a list of recommended techniques for configuration that significantly improved process performance.
Subsequently, Patni helped the client in customizing reports and reducing the response time.
Significant improvement to the tune of 300% in HP PPM transactions, in both stage and production environments after Network – Packet Shaper was reconfigured.
Effective implementation of portlets helped in increasing the user-friendliness aspect of custom portlets.
Improved performance of HP PPM application with faster response time resulted after reduction of SQL parsing time.
Better monitoring and control mechanisms with robust best practices put in place.
