Global major achieves 75 GB Baan data
migration in 3 calendar days |
By partnering with
Patni, a large manufacturer migrated a huge volume of data in
an old version of Baan to a new version effortlessly in an extremely
short time frame.
The Client
The client is a large manufacturer of transport air conditioning
equipments.
The Challenge
The RCG (Replacement Components Group) is a business unit
that services and provides replacement components for Truck/Trailer,
Marine, Bus and Rail air-conditioning equipments. The RCG was
using Baan ERP as its backbone for varied business functions
in the areas of Distribution, Warehousing, Finance, Manufacturing
and Engineering Product Support. However, as the client was
using Triton, an old version of Baan, it faced the following
challenges:

To address these challenges, the client decided to migrate to
Baan IV c4 version. However, the migration was challenging due
to the following factors:

The Solution
A detailed level of planning was done to achieve data migration
without disrupting business operations. The assessment exercise
revealed that the customer had data which was not used during
the daily operations.
After carefully evaluating a range of possibilities with the
customer team, a tentative plan for migration was made. This
strategy envisaged dividing the data in parts based on criticality
of the data in day-to-day operations and the frequency at which
the data got accessed. Simultaneously, archival of unused data
was done as a part of data migration. To speed up the development
and make it cost effective, a decision was made to move the
development to Patni's offshore facility. Subsequently, an elaborate
schedule for preparing test plans for testing the migrated software
along with the live data was devised. To help users get acquainted
with the new functionalities, training was provided to key users
