Baan optimization helps a global manufacturing
giant transform operations |
By making a thorough
assessment of the enterprise application environment, Patni
helped a large manufacturer of transport air-conditioning equipment
improve performance of its Baan application.
The Client
The client is one of the largest manufacturers of transport
air conditioning equipments in the world.
The Challenge
The client's Replacement Components Group (RPG) services and
provides
replacement components for Truck, Trailer, Marine, Bus and Rail
conditioning equipments. This division uses Baan ERP as its
backbone for varied business functions related to Distribution,
Warehousing, Finance, Manufacturing and Engineering Product
support.
However, as the application was not properly optimized, the
client was
facing critical problems like:

Increased Batch job timing |

Poor OLTP of Baan. |
As these problems were hampering the day-to-day working on the
Baan application, the client sought Patni's expertise to optimize
and resolve performance issues.
The Solution
The project was challenging as the live production system was
not available. Additionally, there was a very small time frame
for trial runs on the production servers. Accordingly, a system
with the same configuration was created for running tests. Patni
accepted the challenge of turning
around the Baan instance and provided not only a short-term
solution, but also a thorough assessment of the environment
which gave the organization the ability to handle future data
growth.
Initially, Patni carried out assessment of the production environment,
which included monitoring system performance, carrying out system
audits, studying business process and analyzing batch job history.
Simultaneously, utilities were developed to capture relevant
information related to OLTP and Batch jobs. These tools helped
in identifying root causes of performance issues and taking
action plans to resolve the same.
According to the level of complexity, tasks were categorized
as Quick Fixing tasks, Complex tasks and Medium complex tasks.
