Patni shaves 45% off IT project spend for
Fortune 50 manufacturing giant through
improved IT governance |
Patni leverages its competencies in Mercury's IT governance suite and enables a leading aircraft
engine manufacturing company to monitor project metrics, accelerate development, improve
quality, and enhance the performance of critical business systems.
The Client
Employing over 35,000
employees and with
annual revenues in
excess of $15b, our
client is the world's
leading producer of large
and small jet engines for
commercial and military
aircraft, with world-wide
operations supporting
engine manufacturing,
engine overhaul,
component repair,
accessories and engine
testing.
The Challenge
The client's IT portfolio of applications and projects had grown at an
enormous rate, introducing the challenge to manage multiple IT initiatives
and align IT investments with business objectives and stakeholder
priorities.
Existing systems used by the client (Project Management and Human
Resource Management), provided very little information about the
numerous IT initiatives in progress throughout the organization. The
business metrics, that demonstrate the value produced by IT investments,
were unobtainable. The client recognized that without the right controls,
processes and systems in place, the organization would continue to
struggle to assess the value, cost, risk and performance that IT delivers.
The existing IT infrastructure could not support the increased demand for
new IT initiatives and a new management platform was desired to capture
real-time IT status.
The Solution
Automation of the software development life cycle and maintaining
efficiency in project management, quality management and release
management are critical for managing IT value.
Patni recommended the implementation of Mercury's IT Governance
suite and Informatica's data warehousing solutions. In addition, Patni reemphasized
the need for interoperability between the IT governance
solution, Project Management and Human Resource Management
solutions in order to achieve business goals.
Once approved, Patni lead the design and implementation of the new IT
management platform and new IT status reporting system. This new
solution delivers real-time IT status, delivering accurate information on
time to enable difficult IT portfolio decisions to be made with
confidence.
