By partnering with Patni, a leading vacuum pump manufacturing company lowered its order to cash processing costs with greater order and fulfilment accuracy.

The Client

The client is a world leader in vacuum technology, supplying vacuum pumps and systems for chemical, pharmaceutical, metallurgical and scientific applications.

The Challenge

The client had planned a massive restructuring program to drive business process improvement and improve operational efficiencies. It had implemented one of the leading ERP solutions for handling functions related to Sales and Finance areas. However, process performance of the "Order-tocash" process, specifically, transaction processes involved in sales order management, presales activities were at sub-optimal level leaving a significant opportunity for improvement. Hence Order-to-cash was identified as one of the key processes for improvement. The objectives of improving the Order-to-cash process included delivering greater service levels, improving visibility, and achieving optimum efficiency and effectiveness in the finance and customer care processes.

 

The Solution

Patni partnered with the client to conduct a detailed analysis of the order-tocash process. Existing processes were mapped and analyzed critically to identify and document gaps and quick wins. This was followed by definition of the "desired to be" processes and identification of key enablers like system enhancements and business policies. This exercise resulted in a comprehensive roadmap that explicitly stated all the critical elements for improving the order-to-cash process.

The following key activities were performed by Patni:
Creating document templates
"As Is" process mapping Designing "To Be" processes and facilitating "To Be" Workshops
Defining and documenting required business policy changes
Identifying system changes, preparing functional specifications and identifying process scenarios for training
Identifying data integrity issues in existing data
Deciding approaches for data clean-up by considering dependencies and historical data.
