Beverage major uses Stellent to streamline
enterprise content management process |
Using Patni's expertise and experience in implementing enterprise content management
solutions, a large beverage manufacturer improved user access and enhanced collaboration
among key stakeholders
The Client
A leading global manufacturer,
distributor and marketer of
non-alcoholic beverage
concentrates and syrups.
The Challenge
The beverage industry is a highly competitive industry, requiring quick
introduction of unique products. This calls for a robust and agile innovation
process that ranges from idea generation to successful market execution;
with many stages in between. Every stage is an important stage with critical
decisions leading to success or failure of the product in the marketplace.
Being a global player, the client had different stakeholders spread across the
globe who represented different functional areas, evaluated the ideas and
made important decisions. This process generated a large number of
documents of diverse types, which were managed and maintained for current
or future use. For this activity, the client's stakeholders who were part of the
innovation team, depended in a huge way on the IT department. This reduced
the agility of the innovation process, as the stakeholders had to seek the
services of the IT department even in case of minor content updates.
To address this challenge, the client decided to automate the content
management process, and make the innovation process independent of IT by
giving the users more control on the site in terms of content publishing and
content updates.
The Solution
To meet its business needs, the client decided to implement an enterprise content
management solution from Stellent, and sought Patni's expertise for implementing the
solution. Patni carried out a detailed analysis for management of the enterprise content,
and put in a process for implementation of the solution. Patni executed the project in a
phased approach using a blended onsite-offshore model.
Key activities performed by Patni included:
 |
Analysis: Defining types of content, structure, rules and workflows for content
creation and approval |
 |
Design: Creating design templates specific to client requirements, identifying
repositories, designing taxonomy, defining metadata and virtual contribution folders,
defining workflow and integrating with Verity search engine for criteria based search
and full-text search |
 |
Implementation: Building the site using Stellent Site Studio, testing functional and
technical requirements, performance and load testing by independent Verification &
Validation group, helping in deployment, content migration and versioning the
content. |

The Benefits
After partnering with Patni for implementing the enterprise
content management solution from Stellent, the client gained
significant benefits. Key benefits include:
 |
Improved access and usability: As a single repository holds
different kinds of documents, files can be stored and
retrieved across the globe. This is complemented by a search
engine that gives faster and more accurate access to content
desired by users. This has improved content access and reusability |
 |
Improved efficiencies: As the complete process from
contribution to publishing of the content is fully automated,
the client has succeeded in significantly reducing the time
taken for content updates and publishing. Additionally, web
site content can be directly edited by the users, without the
assistance of the IT department |
 |
Enhanced collaboration: Role based access and the ease
with which managers can collaborate with each other, has
accelerated and improved the new product development
process |
 |
Flexibility to ramp up or scale down resources: Due to
Patni's ability to train and ramp-up resources while adhering
to tight deadlines, the client was able to keep his
commitments to business users despite changing
requirements. |
