Leveraging Manufacturing Execution Systems for global visibility of shop-floor data |
| |
| Abstract |
While technology has evolved to match the demands of a dynamic industry, it has still not
addressed the problems of global manufacturers who want to have global visibility over
their distributed operations across different geographies. For example, though
manufacturers can track and optimize their supply chains, they are still not able to get an
accurate picture of what is being produced at what plant till they get a view of the shop
floor. In this scenario, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) have emerged as a
powerful proposition for integrating plant-floor data with information provided by
applications such as ERP and CRM.
This paper describes the importance of MES in an increasingly connected global world, the steps manufacturing organizations need to take for utilizing the full potential of MES, and the exciting future that is possible for MES when combined with promising technologies such as BPM and SOA.
